Finding the best self help books is an exciting journey which can often start at an airport. Whenever I travel I always find out what the latest self help bestseller is as it usually has a huge promotional feature at the airport bookshop. I’m not sure why airport bookshops always feature heavily in the self help topics. Maybe the time for reflection that a long flight offers and the subsequent existential dread is the perfect environment for personal transformation. A “get me out of here” attitude towards oneself that the wisdom of the best self help books can help sooth. After all airports seem like fairly friendless places and the companionship of a book can turn loneliness into an enjoyable solitude like nothing else. A long flight can give us pause for reflection and time to take in the wisdom of another. Leaving ones familiar surroundings going on a physical as well as a metaphorical journey can be an enriching experience. So enjoy it. Browse the airport bookshop, let your mind wander, see what is “popping out” at you. What catches your attention when you are half asleep and the rational mind is switched off is often the best way to find what your soul is looking for.
